Hazel Jonetta Casto, 61, of South Charleston, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House with her loving family by her side.
Hazel was born January 26, 1965, in Charleston, West Virginia. She was a woman who found joy in the simple things in life and loved spending time with the people who meant the most to her.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Ocie “Granny” Arthur; her mother, Julia “JuJu” Koch; her brothers, Homer “Hutch” Hutchinson and Terry Coffman; and her beloved granddaughter, Lizzy May.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Ashley Cantrell (Jeremy), Misty Muhammad (Abdul), and Amy May; and her sons, Mark Adkins and Zack Casto (Nevaeh).
She was a proud grandmother to Tayler, Charity, Destiny, Devon, and Athena, and a great-grandmother to Peyton, Nevaeh, and Dey.
Hazel is also survived by her longtime boyfriend, Bobby Strickland; her sisters, Katherine Burke, Martha Mullins Huffman (Randy), Julie Coffman, and Ocie Mary “Jane” Arthur; and her brothers, Deuce Adkins (Lindsay), Michael “Mike” Hutchinson (Liz), and Roy “Butch” Koch. She also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, and many friends who will miss her dearly.
Hazel loved reading, with Harry Potter being her favorite. She adored her grandchildren more than anything in the world. She also enjoyed drinking Diet Coke, collecting owls, yard selling, and spending time playing Bingo.
A tribute to the life of Hazel will be held at 12:00 PM Monday, March 9, 2026, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM for family and friends.
