Toni Gail Hughes, 67, of Anderson, Ohio passed away on May 30, 2026 following a long battle with polycystic kidney disease for over 25 years and being diagnosed septic with gallbladder infection is what ended her life.

Toni was a free spirited woman who always saw the positive side of people and in animals. She graduated DuPont High School, got her nursing degree worked for Charleston Memorial Hospital and worked at Ohio branches became a mother and helped out in numerous sport activities from being a coach to president of sport of leagues, boys scouts, Girl Scouts, helped out with so many more activities. Her passion out from her children were volunteering at the Cincinnati Zoo, New Port Aquarium, Wave Foundation, Raptors and other venues.

The family would like to thank Mercy Anderson Hospital, numerous friends who helped make her light up and eager to help out with animals, nurses, strangers who listened about her animal stories and people who kept a positive outlook when moments where she was the sickest and most vulnerable. Thank you for loving and caring for her.

Preceding her death were her parents, Robert and Shelby Meadows Cole.

Surviving are her husband, Richard Hughes; son, Jeremy Ferrell of Pt. Pleasant; daughter; Elizabeth Ferrell of Charleston and grandchildren, Isaiah Ferrell, Colton Gebhard, Kendall Gebhard, and Jamere.

In keeping with Toni’s request, her cremation wishes will be honored by a donation to the Cincinnati Zoo, Newport Aquarium, or local pet shelter.

Her memorial service will be at:
