Anita Carol “Kate” McDerment, 66, passed away on June 5, 2026, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Kanawha City after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on October 11, 1960, to Arlene and Ottie Neal, Anita was known for her unique spirit, strong will, and generous heart. She spent much of her life helping others and caring for those around her. Anita was a fighter who faced life’s challenges with determination and strength.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stevie Ireland McDerment; her former companion, David Taylor of Sissonville; her parents, Arlene and Ottie Neal; her brothers, John Neal and Gary Neal; her sister-in-law, Vonda McDerment; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jack and Janet McDerment; and her great-niece, Amanda Maxwell.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kassie McDerment of South Charleston and Nichole McDerment of Huntington; her grandchildren, Daisha Flemming, Aniyah Flemming, Kayla Lowe, and Kayden Mize; her sisters, including Hassie Layne and Jenny cook; her brother Mike Neal; and many other family members and friends whose lives she touched.

Anita’s love for her family, her willingness to help others, and her unforgettable personality will be remembered by all who knew her. Though cancer took a toll on her body, it never took away her fighting spirit. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered until the day we meet again.

In accordance with her wishes, Anita will be cremated through Harding’s Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 22, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the home of her surviving sister, Hassie Layne, and brother Mike Neal in Sissonville. Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories and celebrate Anita’s life.
