George Richard “Rick” Burwell, of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, passed away June 24, 2026, at his home, due to pancreatic and lung cancer.
Rick was born in Hood River, Oregon on May 8th, 1944, to George Leslie Gurwell & Jeane Roslyn Slonaker-Gurwell.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Tammy S. Gurwell. They were both new to West Virginia only arriving on Father’s Day last year, June 15, 2025.
In addition to his wife, those he leaves behind are his 3 sisters Linda Odenborg, Janelle Fowler and Susan Talley, their 5 children Karriana Lyon, Kathryn Gurwell, Grant Gurwell, Dustin Gurwell and Alex Gurwell, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was a Sheriff’s Deputy in Grays Harbor County in Washington, a Police Officer in Elma, Washington, and a Special Officer in Oregon in his early years then retired as a Master Auto Mechanic.
He was an amazing husband, fantastic father and adored his grands and great-grandchildren.
In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated and no service will be held at this time.
