Richard Andrew “Ricky” Shearer, 59, of Poca, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House.
Born on May 3, 1967, in South Charleston, West Virginia, Ricky was the son of the late Shirley Ord Shearer and Sheridan “Sonny” Shearer.
A graduate of Poca High School, Ricky continued his education at West Virginia State University, where he earned a degree in Computer Programming. He retired from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources after years of dedicated service.
Ricky was a former member of the West Virginia Astronomical Society and had a lifelong passion for collecting comic books and baseball cards. He found great enjoyment in his hobbies and appreciated the friendships they fostered over the years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Cindy Shearer, along with a host of cousins and their families, who shared a close bond with Ricky and whom he dearly loved.
A tribute celebrating Ricky’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Jim Cash and Bron Walker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Hubbard Hospice House for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Ricky during his final days.
Ricky will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of learning, his unique interests, and the special place he held in the hearts of his family and friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
