Walter David “Dave” Filipek, 73, of Cross Lanes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
Dave was retired from Maxim Crane and was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 132. Known affectionately as the unofficial mayor of Seebert, West Virginia, in Pocahontas County, Dave had a special love for the mountains and cherished the time he spent there. The mountains held a special place in his heart, bringing him peace and happiness throughout his life.
Dave was preceded in death by his love, Beverly Eads; his parents, Walt and Loyce Filipek; and his brother, John Filipek.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, David (Amy) Garrett; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn, David “Bub,” Elizabeth “Grace,” Alexis Nicole, and Alexis Leigh; and two great-grandchildren, Brendilyn and Bailey Jo. His memory will live on through the family he loved and the many lives he touched.
A tribute to the life of Dave will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at the Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dave will be remembered for his love of the mountains, his connection to the Seebert community, and the lasting memories he leaves with those who knew and loved him.
