Maynard Tanner, Sr.

Maynard Tanner, Sr., born November 22, 1950, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 26, 2025.

Maynard was a faithful member of Falling Rock Gospel Tabernacle for almost 30 years. He was a retired truck driver with Estes Express, where he worked diligently and honorably.

Maynard was blessed with many passions and talents, but his greatest passions were his love for the Lord and his family. He lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love. A humble and faithful servant of God, Maynard lived his testimony daily. He found joy in working on and rebuilding cars and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyddie and Bettie Tanner; his brother, Thomas Tanner; his daughter, Amy Tanner-Hammons; and his son, Michael Tanner.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife of 57 years, Helen Tanner; his sister, Peggy Mitchell (Vincent); and his son, Maynard Tanner, Jr. (Jennifer). Also cherishing his memory are his grandchildren: Stephanie Tanner; Zachary Tanner (Karlie); Emilee Goff (Alex); Kristin Tanner; Megan Wilkinson (Geordie); Brandon Hammons (Autumn); Amiee Tanner (Layne); and Brooke Tanner. Bonus grandchildren: Ethan, Logan, Romie, Lakynn, and Sawyer; and great-grandchildren: Bryson Goff, Austyn Tanner, Averal Goff, Beau Tanner, Cohen Hammons, Greylyn Davis. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, too numerous to name.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and support shown over the past several months. A special thank you is given to the three community churches—Falling Rock Gospel Tabernacle, Reamer Gospel Tabernacle, and Reamer Hill—for their overwhelming support, cottage prayer services, and the beautiful singing that filled his front yard. There were several individuals who truly upheld and supported the family during this time, and they know who they are. The overwhelming support speaks volumes to the person he was.

Though we grieve, we also rejoice, knowing that Maynard is at peace, healed, and in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith and love will remain his lasting testimony.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Falling Rock Gospel Tabernacle, with Pastor Tim Harper officiating. Family visitation will be from 3:00–4:00 p.m., followed by visitation for friends from 4:00–5:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 5:00 p.m. The church choir will sing praises to God, celebrating that Maynard has finished his race and gained the victory. Burial will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Stump-Matics Funeral Home, 8539 Elk River Road North, Clendenin, WV, 20545. Online condolences can be shared with the Tanner family at www.stumpfuneralhomes.com
