Norma Aileen Nettles, 87, went home to be with the Lord on December 25, 2025, following a short illness. Born on August 19, 1938, she lived a long and meaningful life defined by unwavering devotion to her family, quiet strength, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew her.
Norma is survived by three of her four children: Melody (Bill) Tyo of Birch River, WV; Cathy (Terry) Davis of Birch River, WV; and Marsha (Sheldon) Blackshire of Dille, WV. She is also lovingly remembered by her nine grandchildren, thirteen great‑grandchildren, and her brother, Tommy Persinger of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Sterling Nettles; her son, Sterling Lynn Nettles; her parents, Charles and Glenda Persinger; her sisters, Annabelle and Faye; and her brothers, Billy, Bussy, and Milton.
Norma worked for Carroll Shoe Company in Summersville, WV, before dedicating 27 years of service as a Paraprofessional at Clay Elementary School. In that role, she supported children with special needs with patience, compassion, and steadfast commitment, leaving a lasting impact on countless students and families.
A gifted singer, Norma shared her love of gospel music throughout the region. She often traveled with her best friend, Nancy Johnson, as part of their musical group, Joyful Noise, bringing comfort, joy, and inspiration to many. She was also a devoted member of People’s Community Church in Duck, WV, where her faith and fellowship were central parts of her life.
Norma was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her kindness, her faith, and the light she carried within her enriched the lives of everyone she encountered. Though our hearts are broken by her passing, her love and legacy will continue to shine brightly in all who were blessed to know her.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
