Velma Ruth Lancaster, 90, of Campbell’s Creek, went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2026. Affectionately known to many as Ruthie, and to her grandchildren as MawMaw, she leaves behind a legacy defined by faith, warmth and an immeasurable love for her family.
Ruthie was a devoted mother and a fiercely proud grandmother who treasured every moment spent with those she loved. Her greatest joy was her family, whom she loved beyond measure. She was also famous for her delicious peanut butter fudge—a sweet reflection of the warmth and comfort she brought to everyone she met. A faithful member of Morris Memorial United Methodist Church, Ruthie dedicated her time to the Good News Club, where she found great purpose and joy in sharing her love for the Lord with others.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find profound peace in knowing she is finally reunited in Heaven with her parents; her beloved husband, Melvin Lee Lancaster and her dear daughter, Debbie Kay Whitlock. The love she gave so freely and the memories she created will forever live on in the hearts of those blessed enough to call her family.
Ruthie’s loving memory and unwavering spirit will be carried on by her son, Paul (Lori) Lancaster; her cherished grandchildren, Nate (Hillary) Lancaster, Nicole (Joey) Chandler, and Kayla (Zach) Lucas and her precious great-grandchildren, Liza and Paisley Lucas, Lilli, Olivia, and Laney Lancaster, and Jackson Chandler. She is also survived by her brother, Roy Layton and a host of dear friends.
The Lancaster family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and her many friends at Charleston Healthcare Center. Over the last several years, the staff became like family to our MawMaw, and we will forever be grateful for the love, kindness, and care they showed her, especially during her final days. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at Fidler and Frame Funeral Home, Belle with Pastor Sam Bounds officiating. Interment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Wednesday.
