Mrs. Bernice L. Cottrill, 77, of Cross Lanes passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026.

Bernice was a graduate of Mullins High School and retired from the State of West Virginia after many years of dedicated service. She was also a longtime Avon representative, where she not only built lasting relationships but found joy in helping others. Bernice had a servant’s heart—she loved people deeply, often opening her home to foster children and offering support to anyone in need. She was known as the glue that held her family together, always standing strong, fiercely loving, and willing to fight for those she cared about.

Her life was marked by devotion and sacrifice for her family. Bernice gave endlessly of herself, always putting others before her own needs. She had a special way of reaching those who were struggling, doing her best to lift them up and show them compassion and care.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eual and Dollie Miller, and her brother, Tyrone Miller.

Bernice is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Mr. Michael Cottrill; her four children, Michelle (Scott) Miller, Alicia Russell, Tesla (Jonathan) McGinnus, and Karter Cottrill; her brother, Justin (Debbie) Miller; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her love and legacy forward.

Services for the family will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
