Louise Jean Wolverton, 73, of Big Bend, West Virginia, passed away on April 7, 2026, at WVU Camden Clark Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Louise was born to William R. Dowell and Letha J. Lane (Parsons), who preceded her in death.

She was married to her devoted husband, Dusty Wolverton. She was a proud and loving mother to her daughter, Melinda (Rich) Ferrell, and her son, Lee (Courtney) Wolverton. She cherished her role as “Granny” to her grandchildren, Levi, Jessa, and Garett Lee, who brought her endless joy.

She is survived by her siblings Janice Smith, Richard Dowell, Carol Cozart, and Linda Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Donnie Dowell, James L. Dowell, and Jeannie Ross.

Louise was known for her fun-loving spirit and sharp sense of humor. She had a personality that was unforgettable—if she liked you, you were truly golden, and if she didn’t, she wasn’t afraid to let you know. Her honesty and authenticity were part of what made her so special.

She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, like playing bingo, fishing, feeding the birds, and watching her hummingbirds. She also loved relaxing with her favorite show, Survivor. Her favorite color was blue, a small detail that those closest to her will always remember. More than anything, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren—those moments meant everything to her.

Louise fought a long and courageous battle, and in the end, she won. She was called Home to be with God, where she is now at peace.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Minnie Hamilton Health Care, along with special thanks to a few nurses who know who they are, for the care and compassion shown to Louise.

She will be remembered for her strength, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely to those closest to her.

A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Hunt Cemetery, Big Bend, WV, at 6:00 p.m., with Rev. Kevin Church officiating. Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Grantsville, WV, is honored to serve Louise’s family. Fond memories and words of sympathy can be shared with the family Wolverton at www.stumpfuneralhomes.com
