Winfield S. Starcher, Sr., 92, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia, following a short illness.
Born on June 24, 1934, Winfield was the son of the late Francis “Reed” Starcher and Hattie Butler-Starcher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eldest son, Winfield S. Starcher, Jr. of Brook Park, OH, Sisters Myrtle Hupp of Parkersburg, WV, Amanda Stonebraker of Girard, OH, and his brother Francis “Frank” Starcher of Warren, OH.
He is survived by his former wife, Norma (Carder Nicholas) Starcher; his sons, Eugene Starcher (Lisa) and Winfield S. Starcher, Jr. (Sherry), both of Weston, WV, and Jeffery S. Starcher (Alicia), of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia; along with several beloved grandchildren.
Winfield served his country in the United States Army and was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he spent many years as a truck driver before retiring. He was also a lifelong farmer who found great satisfaction in farming. In addition, he owned and operated Orma Grocery until its closing in 1996, where he became well known throughout the community.
Those who knew Winfield will remember his strong work ethic, his willingness to share his knowledge with others, his dedication to farming, and the enjoyment he found in spending time with his family. His life was defined by hard work, service to his country, and a love of the family farm and those closest to him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at Starcher Family Cemetery, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., with Rev. Kevin Church officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend as they honor and celebrate his life.
