Michael Baldwin, 49, of Charleston, West Virginia, was born on January 30, 1976, and passed away on January 4, 2026. He was a deeply loved brother, friend and devoted boyfriend whose adventurous spirit and generous heart left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Michael had a love for the outdoors, especially the mountains and waterways of West Virginia. He found peace and joy in camping—often alongside his beloved Subaru—and treasured exploring the natural beauty of the state he called home. He was especially fond of the iconic “Almost Heaven” swings placed in breathtaking locations across West Virginia, places where he could pause and take in the view. Now, those who loved him imagine Michael surrounded by the most glorious mountain range.
A true people-person, Michael, never met a stranger. He had a rare gift for conversation, able to connect with anyone and become genuinely interested and engrossed in any topic. His curiosity, warmth, and openness made others feel seen and valued.
Michael embraced life fully and passionately. He enjoyed breweries, good food, concerts, and nearly any outdoor activity, especially when shared with the love of his life, his girlfriend of seven years, Valerie Westgerdes. Together, they built countless memories rooted in adventure, companionship, and love.
Known for his generosity, Michael gave freely of what he had, often helping others. His kindness was profound, and his spirit was one of true compassion.
Michael will be remembered for his adventurous soul, his boundless friendliness, and the love he shared so openly. Though he is no longer with us, his memory lives on in mountain views, flowing water, shared laughter, and the many lives he touched. He is survived by his mother Robin, sister Chasity Hein (Jason Hein) brother David Baldwin, brother Jeremy jones, sister Destiny Baldwin, and longtime girlfriend Valerie Westgerdes.
