Alonzo “Danny” Hemmings, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered into eternal rest on February 24, 2026, at the age of 77. Born to Lon and Nadine Hemmings, who preceded him in death, Danny’s life was a testament to his deep love for family, his unwavering faith and his passion for the great outdoors.

Danny’s greatest joy was his family. He shared a remarkable 60 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Beulah Hemmings, a bond that served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Their enduring love created a strong foundation for their family and together they built a life rich in companionship and shared experiences.

He leaves behind two loving sons, Daniel Hemmings and his partner, Mary of Charleston and David Hemmings and his wife, Danielle of Hurricane. Danny’s legacy further extended to his cherished grandchildren, Austin Liddle and his wife, Alli, Alaina Hemmings, Isabella Hemmings and Daxx Hemmings. He also had the immense pleasure of knowing his great-grandson, Ashton Liddle, who brought an extra spark of joy to his later years. His mother-in-law, Mae Smith, brought such joy to Danny’s life and will forever cherish his memory. Several nieces and nephews were also deeply touched by Danny and his love for family. Danny’s family truly was his world, and he poured his heart and soul into every moment spent with them.

A man of many talents and deep convictions, Danny was known for his dedication to his work and his hobbies. He spent many years as a welder in the coal mines, a profession that spoke to his strength and resilience. Beyond his work in the mines, Danny was a master craftsman, renowned as one of the best taxidermists in the Kanawha Valley. His skill earned him the affectionate nickname “Taxi Dan”, a moniker that reflected his passion and artistry.

Danny’s commitment to the Lord was unwavering. He was a man of faith who never missed an opportunity to worship, finding solace and strength in his spiritual journey. He was a true Christian, a dedicated and faithful servant of the Lord and a long-time member of Diamond Baptist Church, where he humbly served as a Deacon.

His love for the outdoors was equally profound; he was an avid hunter who cherished every season spent in nature, appreciating the beauty and tranquility it offered. Whether it was hunting, spending quality time with his family or attending church, Danny embraced each aspect of his life with enthusiasm and a grateful heart.

Alonzo “Danny” Hemmings will be remembered for his kind spirit, his strong work ethic, his steadfast devotion to his family and his enduring faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories that will be forever held dear by those fortunate enough to have known him.
