Harold Eugene “Gene” Short, 80, of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at Complete Care at Oak Ridge.
Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his warm spirit and love of gospel music. He retired from US Food Services and cherished time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen Short; sons Chip (Lisa) Short of Cross Lanes and Jeff (Tammie) Short of Charleston; grandchildren Matthew (Amanda), Brittany, Molly, and Joshua Short; sister Vicki (Jim) Short O’Brien; and special aunt Janice Ledsome. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Ellis Short, Jr. and Wanda Lee Ledsome Short; brothers Terry Randall Short and Ronald Dale Short; and his uncle Keith Ledsome.
A celebration of life will begin, 1:00pm, Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Pinch, with Pastor Randy Ledsome officiating. Burial will be held at the Harless Cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be from 12:00pm – 1pm at the church.
