David Rudolph Farmer, 67, of St. Albans, West Virginia, passed away March 15, 2026, after a long illness surrounded by the love of his family. A proud graduate of St. Albans High School, Class of 1977, David went on to earn his degree in Criminal Justice from West Virginia State University. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, quick wit, and unwavering determination.

David spent 25 years working at Union Carbide, which later became Dow Chemical, where he built a respected career in the chemical industry. David’s career continued with an important role in the public service sector by helping establish the Day Report Center for the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, leaving a lasting impact on his community.

An avid hunter and fisherman, David felt most at home in the woods or on the water. The outdoors was where he found peace, adventure, and some of his most cherished memories. Those who knew him best remember his sharp humor, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and the loyalty he showed to his friends and family.

More than anything, David loved being “Pawpaw.” His grandchildren; Israel Sayre, Cambri Craig, and Cylie Craig were the absolute joys of his life and the apples of his eye. Pawpaw loved cheering them on, telling stories, and spending every moment he could with them. Even during his illness, David’s greatest motivation was simply one more day with his grandchildren. They brought him laughter, pride, and a kind of happiness that only a grandfather can know.

David was a man of faith who truly came to understand and embrace the message of Amazing Grace. That faith carried him through life’s challenges and ultimately brought him to a place of peace.

He is survived by his two daughters, Danielle Sayre (Philip) of Ruskin, Florida, and Kristen Craig (Charlie) of St. Albans, West Virginia.

He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy House (Roger) and Ginger Forbes (David). He shared a special bond with his former wife, Jenny Farmer, who was truly an angel on earth in his later years, helping care for him throughout his illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Ruby Farmer, whom he now joins in Heaven.

David lived a life defined by faith, grit, redemption, loyalty, and love for his family. Though he is gone from this earth, his spirit will live on in his daughters and grandchildren, every hunting story told, every fishing line cast, and every memory shared.

His race is finished. His fight has been won. Amazing Grace has carried him home.

A tribute to the life of David will be held 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, WV. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM on Saturday, prior to the services at the church.
