Norris Henry Troney Junior born October 1, 1946, passed away peacefully March 13, 2026.
He was the beloved son of Doris Haynes and Norris Henry Senior, who no doubt greeted him with open arms on the other side.
He is fondly remembered as a devoted educator and a loving family man. He followed in his father’s footsteps serving in the Navy as a first-class Boatswain Mate during the Vietnam War and later continued as a reservist in Huntington, WV. He graduated from Marshall University in 1983 with a master’s degree and went on to dedicate his career to teaching special education in Putnam County. He was a respected educator at Winfield High School and the Putnam County Technical Center, touching the lives of countless students with his patience and dedication. He was a foster parent opening his heart and home to many children throughout the years.
He was a devoted husband to Pamela Troney . He is survived by his two sisters, Linda Ivy and Pam Inabinett, and is proceeded in death by his brother Wayne Troney . Norris’s legacy lives through his six children: John Helton Jr, Tony Helton, Tina Myers, Gerald (Jerry) Munroe, Christopher Troney and Angie Martin. He was also blessed with 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love and wisdom he shared. He shared a life-long bond with his dear friends Tom Tull in Florida and treasured the memory of John Sumner.
His family would like to extend special thanks to the VA in Huntington, Centerwell, and the Visiting Angels for the kindness and love they showed him. Their support brought comfort not only to Norris but also to his family during his time of need. Norris’s memory will live in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy will continue to inspire all those who were touched by his life.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Norris Henry Troney Jr. will be held later this spring. It will be a time for family, friends, former students, and all who knew him to come together, share memories, and honor a life well-lived.
