Charles Stephen Kimble
Charles “Stevie” Kimble, 77, of Elkview went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, after a short illness.
Steve was a faithful servant, devoted family man, and a steady presence in the Elkview community whose life was marked by quiet dedication and a genuine love for others.
He was a 1966 graduate of DuPont High School. He served in the US Army from 1968-1971, serving in Korea. He retired from the US Postal Service in 2013 after 44 years. He was a member of Elkview Baptist Church since 1979. Steve poured himself into the life of the church for over four decades. For 45 years, he faithfully worked with the youth, investing in generations of young people with patience, encouragement, and a guiding hand. He also served as a deacon, assisted in counting the offering, and could often be found helping in the sound room. Outside of church, Steve had a deep love for sports and the outdoors. He found joy on the golf course, including his time working as the Hole 9 Captain from 2011-2019 at the Greenbrier Golf Classic, and he cherished the friendships and memories made there. He also dedicated many years to coaching his daughters’ softball teams and umpiring Little League District 3 softball, leaving a lasting impact on the athletes he mentored. Whether hunting deer or turkey or being on the water fishing, Steve appreciated the simple peace of nature. He took great pride in his granddaughters and great-granddaughters, who were the light of his life. Above all,
Steve will be remembered for his servant’s heart, his commitment to his faith, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, humility, and steady presence. He never met a stranger, and to know him was to love him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Jean Kimble.
Steve leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy Kimble; daughters, Tara Hicks (Duane), and Courtney Shamblin (Brent); siblings, Terry Kimble (Donna), Leann Winfree (Roger), Jeffrey Kimble, and Timmy Kimble (Jill); he is also survived by his grandchildren, Haley Hinchman (Cody), Payten Elkins, and Bayleigh Elkins, as well as great-grandchildren, Addison Hinchman, Caroline Hinchman, and Myla Hinchman.
A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Elkview Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Bias officiating. Entombment will follow at Tyler Mountain Memorial Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Elkview Baptist Church.
