Violet Myrel Tuttle, 87, of Charleston, West Virginia, died March 30, 2026, of complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Violet was born August 28, 1938, on Kenney Knob in Summers County, West Virginia, to Alva Houston and Ila Myrel Bowles Fitzwater. Her family later moved to Meadow Bluff, West Virginia, where she graduated from Smoot High School in 1956. Later that year, she married Donald Silas Tuttle, with whom she would share 58 years of marriage and two children. They soon moved to Charleston.
In the late 1960s, Violet discovered two passions. First, she began working as a teacher’s aide at Mary Ingles Elementary School where she translated love for her own children to her students. Second, she began pursuing her education at West Virginia State College, ultimately earning associate, bachelor and master’s degrees in education. When she received her teaching certificate, she taught at Chelyan, Belle and the Elk Center Elementary Schools before retiring and substitute teaching.
Violet served multiple terms as chapter president and historian of Alpha Delta Kappa, a sorority for educators. She traveled with other AKA sisters to state, regional and national events. She also was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three siblings. She is survived by daughter, Donna McCase of South Charleston and son, Don Tuttle (Joan) of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Tasha McCase Miller (Erick) of Charleston, Ian Tuttle (Caitlin) of Washington D.C. and Owen Tuttle (Regan) of Dallas, Texas and great-grandchildren, Erick Michael Miller, Mikaylah Lee Miller, Evelynn Lee McCase all of Charleston and Patrick Hugh Tuttle of Washington, D.C.
Graveside services for Violet will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2026, at Montgomery Memorial Park, 9619 E. Dupont Ave., London, West Virginia 25126. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to United Way, designated for Kanawha County School Students, 1 United Way Square, Charleston, West Virginia 25301.
