Loran Clifford Yost, Jr.
Loran Clifford Yost, Jr., 91, of Elkview went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 3, 2026, at his home with family by his side.
Loran was a man who lived his life with strength, faith, and a deep sense of duty to others. He proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, something he carried with him his entire life. Loran also served his state through the West Virginia State Police where he retired with the rank of Captain, he then went on to serve and retire as Police Chief at Yeager Airport Police. He took great pride in his work and was known as a steady leader and someone others could count on. He was a proud member of Mount Olivet No. 3 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge in Parkersburg, the Scottish Rite in Valley of Charleston, and the Beni Kedem Shriners of Charleston. Those organizations meant a lot to him, and he valued the friendships and brotherhood he found there. Loran was also a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where his faith remained an important part of his life. He will be remembered as someone who stood strong, cared deeply for others, and always tried to do what was right.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Loran Yost and Inez Rine; sister, Doraine (Doc) Dockery of Akron, OH and Jane Riggenbach of Waynesburg, PA.
Loran leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis Batey Yost; son, Mark (Sharon) Yost of Sutton, WV; daughter, Lynne (Mike) Sample of Given, WV; brother in law, Wayne Riggenbach of Waynesburg, PA; grandchildren, Robert Cutlip, Kristine (Kyle) Kimes, Bradley Yost, Mary Beth (Wyatt) Cottrill, Gavin Sample, and Landin Sample; great-grandchildren, Xander Cutlip, Jaxon Cutlip, Jaxon Kimes, Emry Cottrill, and Paisley Kimes.
A funeral service will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charleston, with Rev. Randolf Richardson officiating. Funeral
Honors will be conducted by the West Virginia State Police Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm-8:00pm on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Hafer Funeral Home in Elkview.
