Noah “Philip” Young Jr., born June 25, 1942, in Diamond, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Geneva Young and Noah Philip Young Sr.; his stepmother, Hope Young; his beloved wife, Shirlene “Lou” Young; his daughter-in-law, Misty Young and his granddaughter, Hannah Young.
Philip is survived by his daughter, Robin Brown (Chuck) and his son, Noah Philip Young IV. He was a proud grandfather to Chad Brown (Erin), Connor Brown (Rachael), Haley Young, Noah Young V, Remington Young (Katie), Emily Young and the great-grandfather of seventeen great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Nichols of Elkview and his favorite neighbor-cousin, Memi Grass.
He graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology and built a long and respected career as a Senior Electrical Engineer for Union Carbide Corporation. He was proud to be a member of PCIC and IEEE.
Philip was a Christian, a farmer, a Certified Master Gardener and an avid reader. His home library was always growing, because if he didn’t know something, he was determined to learn it. Books, tools and ideas filled his life in equal measure.
Philip was also a quiet caretaker. Many people—far beyond his own family—benefited from his willingness to step in, lend a hand or share what he knew. He didn’t look for recognition; helping others was simply who he was.
To his family, he was a steady presence, a teacher and a hero. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember his stories, his wisdom, and the feeling that if Papaw was around, everything would somehow be okay.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Funeral services will be held at Fidler and Frame Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at the funeral home in Belle, West Virginia. A private family burial service will follow the funeral on Wednesday.
