Arthur Allen Whitman
Arthur Allen Whitman, 90, of Elkins, WV, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at his home in Elkins with family by his side.
Born on October 11, 1935, in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late James H. Whitman and Mary M. Shannon Whitman. Arthur was a devoted husband and father who lived a full and active life. He worked for 35 years as a dedicated employee of Goodyear Tire Co. in Charleston, WV. He had a deep love for the woods and wildlife of West Virginia and spent many happy days hunting and fishing. A lifelong die-hard sports fan, he once had a short stint as a semipro baseball player and shared his passion for the game his entire life. In his later years, golf became his favorite pastime, and he cherished being outdoors on the courses. He and Delores loved to cruise the golf course, searching for abandoned golf balls and donating them to local high school golf teams for practice.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James H. Whitman and Mary M. Shannon Whitman, son, Glen Rollins and grandchildren, Erin Faudree and Lee Thomas Arbogast.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Delores Stover Whitman of Elkins, WV; and his daughters, Vanessa Arbogast (Tim) of Buckhannon, WV who lovingly cared for him in his final years, Terri Whitman, Sherri Faudree, Stephanie Sayre. Sons, Allen Whitman, Gary Rollins. Grandchildren, Frank Faudree, Gretchen Ehman, Perry Sayre, Olivia Sayre, Valerie Moore-Edwards and Ashley McKay. He was also the proud grandfather to nine great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor Cliff Curry of Elkview Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens, Cross Lanes, WV.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Hafer Funeral Home.
