John Paul Thompson

John Paul Thompson, 81, of Elkview, West Virginia, passed away on April 21, 2026, following a heart attack. A man who truly lived life to the fullest and strictly on his own terms, John will be remembered for his independent spirit and the vibrant way he moved through the world. He also loved playing sports and was an athlete all through school.

Born on July 31, 1944, John Paul was a lifelong force of nature. He walked his own path until the very end, leaving those who knew him with a lasting example of how to live with conviction and strength.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Virginia Thompson; his sisters, Peggy Blackburn, Ardith Carte, Margaret Belcher and Shirley Strehle and his son, Jeffery Thompson.

John Paul’s legacy lives on through his large and devoted family. He is survived by:

• His son, John David (Mylea) Thompson, and grandchildren Angela Thompson, Sherry (Nate) Teter, David Thompson, and Taylor Ward.His son, Shawn (Deanna) Thompson, and grandchildren Layla Thompson, Sawyer Thompson, and Brooke Boothe.His daughter, Tammy (Richard) Hardman, and grandchildren Elizabeth (Lauren) Sparks, Caroline (Zachary) Young, and Johnnie Hardman.His grandson, Jeffery (Morgan) Thompson.John Paul was also the proud great-grandfather of ten and leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
