Peggy June Statts, 79, of Clendenin, passed away on May 5, 2026, following a long illness. Peggy was born on October 19, 1946, the daughter of the late Raymond and Marie Dennis.
Peggy was a graduate of Herbert Hoover High School, Class of 1964, and retired from The Poca Valley Bank, where she was known for her dedication and leadership.
She was an avid University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball fan and faithfully followed their success over the years.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Larry Waynewright Statts, as well as her mother and father and three infant sisters; Dorothy Ann, Mazel and Macel Dennis.
She is survived by her three children: Mary Elizabeth Barnhouse and husband James Kevin of Amma; Sandra Sue Morris and husband Mike of Amma; and Larry Jason Statts and wife Christina of Clendenin.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kristin Barnhouse Wood and husband Nick; Kayla Morris Shaffer and husband Josh; James Kameron Barnhouse; Larry Austin Statts and wife Tabitha; Nicole Cobb; and Brandon Morris and wife Jasmine. Great-grandchildren include Angela Shaffer Watkins and husband Drake, Braydon Fleming, Colton Shaffer, Kallan Wood, Mirielle Wood, Emmalyn Shaffer, Gracelyn Shaffer and Vera Morris, as well as a great-great-granddaughter, Paisley Watkins, who is expected to arrive in July. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Patricia Greathouse of Spencer; brother, John Dennis of Elkview; a host of nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Ethel Richards.
Peggy was a true matriarch who took immense pride in her family, offering unwavering love, support, and encouragement. Her love for her family and her steady presence will be deeply missed and fiercely remembered.
Burial will be at Statts Cemetery, Gabe Road, Clendenin. A private family service will be planned at a later date.
