Velma M. Sears
Velma M. Sears, 82, of Mink Shoals went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Velma found joy in life’s simple blessings. She loved being outdoors, whether tending to her flowers, or working in her yard. She enjoyed taking peaceful walks, spending quiet moments with a good book, and most of all cherishing time with her family. She worked at CAMC Labworks for several years where she retired in December of 2025.
Velma’s faith was a hugely important part of her life. Even in passing, her giving spirit continued through her selfless decision to be an organ donor, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will continue to touch others for years to come.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Sears; parents, Maxwell and Anna Morris; brother Curtis Morris; and grandmother, Bertha Anderson.
Velma leaves behind her daughter, Cheryl (Bob)Welty, and their children, Robbie (Kaitlyn), and Chris; daughter Lisa Meadows, and her children, Avery, Loran, and Riley; along with brothers, Greg Morris, and Hank Morris.
A memorial service will be at 1:00pm on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Hafer Funeral Home with Reverend Doctor William Myers officiating. Entombment will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Mausoleum in Big Chimney.
Visitation will be 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Monday, May 18, 2026 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Charleston, 16 Leon Sullivon Way, Charleston, WV 25301.
