Constance Sloan

Constance A. “Connie” Sloan, 86, of Elkview, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 26, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

Connie was a 1958 graduate of St. Albans High School. She dedicated many years of service to the State of West Virginia, retiring as Executive Director of the West Virginia Board of Funeral Service Examiners. Throughout her distinguished career, she also served with the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, and West Virginia Legal Aid.

Outside of her career, Connie enjoyed riding motorcycles, gardening, and spending cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her strong will, straightforward nature, and stern personality—qualities that earned the respect of those who knew her best. Beneath that strength was a deep love for her family, who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Mary Shaw, and her brother, David Perry Shaw.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, William James Harper, Tammy Ann White, Kelly Jo Chandler, Willy Harper, Larry Andrew Harper, and Sunshine Harper; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends.

In keeping with Connie’s wishes, there will be no services. She will be laid to rest in the Green Burial Section of Haven of Rest Memory Gardens and Crematorium in Red House.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Kanawha County Animal Shelter, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.

Connie’s strength, determination, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered always.
