Helen Selbe 74 of Sissonville passed on June 30, 2026, at the Hubbard Hospice House with loved ones at her bedside.

Helen retired from the Rite-aid warehouse where she made many friends during her employment. She loved shopping and was always looking for a bargain. When she wasn’t shopping she was found crocheting (many babies have been gifted a crocheted blanket). Helen loved children, one of her favorite things to do was finding bargains so she could gift them to a child.

Helen was raised in Laudendale and was the daughter of the late James Paul and Norma Christine Selbe. She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband of 30 yrs Tom Sturm of Sissonville (the father of her son and grandfather her grandchildren).

Helen is survived by her son, Thomas Paul Sturm of Sissonville, grandson Thomas James Sturm and granddaughter Addison Elizabeth Sturm of Cross Lanes. She loved her grandchildren dearly and always spoke of them. She has 3 step grandchildren Lee, Faith and Cara whom she loved as her own, also of Cross Lanes. She is also survived by her brother James W. Selbe of Laundendale, where the two of them grew up and shared a lifetime of love. Helen always looked forward to their visits, and she never failed to tell you about a brother’s love. She would brag about her brother being the best. She was blessed to have had her companion of 10 years, Otto Page. Who lived with her in Sissonville. She never failed to let anyone know what amazing man she had. How much she loved him. Always making sure he was spoiled and put before herself. Always making sure he was taken care of. She even requested that he was to be taken care of even when she was gone.

Helen and Otto shared a special friendship with Debbie Painter of Sissonville whom the two of them enjoyed making many memories with. Helen always enjoyed the time they spent together.

Helen had a very special friend Linda Young of Sissonville (the niece of Otto). Helen and Linda knew one another for many many years. BUT 8-10 yrs ago they shared a love and bond that Helen would say……she is the daughter I never had. With love and friendship, they shared one another’s grandkids. Before you knew it Helen became Mamaw Helen to Linda’s grandkids. Together they shared their Mamaw love with Callea Kiser of Sissonville. Callea is the one that started calling her Mamaw Helen. Together they shared a very special bond. Helen loved Callea as her own and always told her how special she was. It didn’t take Callea long to tell you that Mamaw Helen got it for me.

Just like that Gracie and Jacob came along and yes, she became Mamaw Helen to them as well. She never failed to send them back home with bags of bargains and lots of love.

Helen will forever be loved and remembered for her kindness and selfless love. Her memories will be carried on and shared by all who loved her.

At Helen’s request she will be cremated and no service is scheduled at this time. Her loved ones will plan a celebration of life at a later date.

Helen loved flowers…flowers of every kind…instead of flowers we request you send donations to the Hubbard Hospice House 1606 Kanawha Blvd W, Charleston, WV 25387 or donate to a children’s back to school program in her memory.

The family would like to thank the Hubbard Hospice House staff for their kindness and care. A very special thanks to the friends that have been there during the family’s time of need.
