Vickie Lynn Lovejoy, 75, of Bancroft, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Vickie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa (Tim) Casto, and her beloved granddaughter and the light of her life, Joely Casto. Vickie was also a Mawmaw to many, loving and caring for not only her own granddaughter, but for countless children and young people who were fortunate enough to know her and call her Mawmaw. She leaves behind many other family members and dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they made with her. The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to everyone who was there for Vickie and assisted with her care.
Vickie was born in South Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Billy H. and Margaret Hicks. She was a proud member of the Poca High School graduating class of 1968. She was a member of Bancroft Mission Church, where she found fellowship and shared her faith with others.
Vickie spent much of her working life serving others. She worked for the telephone company for 34 years, holding many different roles throughout her career. She later worked for AEP for 10 years at the call center. Her dedication to her work was just one reflection of the dependable and caring person she was.
Vickie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, C. Wayne “Ranger” Lovejoy, and those she loved so dearly who went before her. She finds comfort in knowing that she will be reunited with them in Heaven.
Those who knew Vickie know there was no such thing as a stranger to her. She had a gift for making people feel like they had been friends forever. She loved to talk, loved to socialize, and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. She loved living on her family compound, surrounded by the people and things that meant so much to her. She enjoyed collecting her many “treasures,” and everyone who knew her knew just how much she loved her slushies.
Vickie’s greatest gift was the way she made people feel. She treated everyone like a best friend, welcomed people with an open heart, and left a lasting impression wherever she went. Her laughter, stories, conversations, kindness, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed.
While her family and friends grieve the loss of a woman who meant so much to them, they find comfort in knowing that Vickie has been called home to be with the Lord and is reunited with those she loved. Her memory will live on through her daughter, granddaughter, family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 21, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gatens Harding Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Gatens Harding Funeral Home, with Pastors Jimmy Legg and Delbert Hawley officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
