Patsy Lynn Stafford, 74, of Elkview, WV, passed away on July 30th, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loved ones after a long, graceful fight against breast cancer.
She was a woman of great faith who trusted and worshipped her Lord and Savior throughout her life, whether at home or at her beloved Antioch Advent Christian Church, among friends. At church, Patsy sang in the choir and helped organize special events like vacation bible school, as she especially enjoyed being around the children of the church and helping them learn about faith.
Patsy retired from the Kanawha County School Board with 20 years of service, with her last position being the cafeteria manager of Elkview Middle School. While working, she also founded the West Virginia School Nutrition Association, where she served as the president. In this role, she traveled across the United States to represent the organization at different events. Patsy was also known as an amazing cook who loved making dishes and delivering them to her friends and family whenever she could.
She loved reading, cracking jokes, and spending time with her family. She could often be found on her iPad, which she used to read new books and play puzzle-solving games. She enjoyed long amounts of time spent on the porch, reminiscing about fond memories, and laughing, maybe even when she wasn’t supposed to be.
Patsy was a beloved wife, mother, and friend, and she will be deeply missed.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Audry and Daris Dodd of Elkview, WV.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jim Stafford; Daughter Maria Butterworth and husband David Butterworth of Elkview, WV; Son Jimmy Stafford of Elkview, WV; Grandchildren Bobby and Will Butterworth of Elkview, WV, James Stafford of Elkview, WV and Austin and Cody Stafford of Beckley, WV; Sister Kathy Morrison and husband Glenn Morrison of Fort Pierce, FL; Brother Thomas Dodd and wife Linda Dodd, of Senecaville, OH; grand dog, Sullivan Butterworth of Elkview, WV.

Per Patsy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service, a private family service will be held at a later date.
