Anna “Marguerite” Messenger, our beloved Momadoll, went home with the Angels on August 14, 2026.

Marguerite was born on September 7, 1931. She was born and grew up in Williamson, WV where she also graduated High School. Shortly after graduation, she moved with her husband to the town of St. Albans, WV where she lived the remainder of her days. Once her children had grown, she started working as a Sales Associate for The Diamond in Charleston and she remained employed there until she moved onto Kaufmanns Department Store. She enjoyed working in the many different departments throughout her tenure at Kaufmanns and remained there as the store transitioned to Macy’s Department Store where she later retired.

Marguerite’s greatest job was being our loving Momadoll, to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, family and friends. She may have been introduced as Marguerite but everyone would come to know and to love her as Momadoll. When she was physically able, she enjoyed bowling, taking day road trips, fishing, walking in the woods, picnics in the park but most importantly she enjoyed being around her family. She was the rock of her family, the safe place that anyone could come if they needed a warm meal, place to sleep or to just be around her comforting presence. She believed in her family and the power of prayer.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Corrinne O’Neal, her siblings Mack, Jean, Peg, Johnny and Jackie. Her husband Woodrow, her children, Edward, Judy and Fred and her son-in-law Harold Tolbert and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Messenger.

Those of us left to cherish our Momadoll are her daughter Susan Tolbert and a daughter-in-law Amy Jo and her husband Tim. Her Grandchildren: Julie, Kelly and her husband Stephen, Amy and her husband Steven, Rachel and her fiancé Torrey, Zachary and his fiancé Danielle and Patrick. Her great grandchildren: Catilin, Seth, Ian, Autumn, Wyatt, Gracelyn, Anna, Aiden, Austin, Kali and Rainy. Her great-great grandchildren: Evelyn, Emalyn and Rylei. Her brother Richard O’Neal and his wife Gloria and a host of other family, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Service arrangements have been made through Cooke Funeral Home in Nitro. Visitation for Family and Friends will be Tuesday August 18th from 6-8 pm and there will be a Graveside Service at Grandview Memorial Park in Dunbar, WV at 1pm on August 19, 2026.
