Deana (Duncan) Gose, 58, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 2, after a brief battle with cancer.

A celebration of Deana’s life will be held on Friday, October 9, at Elk River Nazarene Church, 143 Dutch Road, Charleston WV. Visitation hours will be held between 12pm noon through 2:30pm, followed by the main service at 3pm.

Deana was a 1986 graduate of Greenup County (KY) High School and a 1990 graduate of Berea College. She taught sixth grade for five years in New Boston, Ohio; she worked at Huntington Banks in downtown Charleston for three years; and most recently Deana retired from 25 years’ service at the West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board in summer 2025.

Deana is survived by her husband Matthew Gose of Elkview WV, her mother Patricia Duncan of South Shore KY, her sister Lisa Thompson and brother-in-law Greg Thompson of Lloyd KY, her sister Leigh Ann Maynard and brother-in-law TJ Maynard of Flatwoods KY, her brother-in-law David Gose of Elysburg PA, her brother-in-law Jonathan Gose and sister-in-law Crystal Gose of Albany OH, three nieces (Kristen Hurn, Alexis Conley, and Alyssa Maynard), eight nephews (Justin Hurn, Dee Gose, Nathan Gose, Joshua Gose, Zachary Gose, Jacob Gose, Elijah Gose, and Ethan Gose), and two great-nephews (Cayson Hurn and Baker Conley).

Deana dearly enjoyed spending time with her Kentucky family. Deana was always happy to travel hundreds of miles to participate in birthday parties, kid sporting events, graduations, holiday celebrations, and family gatherings. Aunt Dee was well-known as the “heckler” at wiffle ball games held at Grandma’s house on weekends, where her mother’s grandchildren played hundreds of games over many years. Aunt Dee enjoyed playing board games and card games with family members, where she was often suspected of cheating, but never officially caught in the act. Deana communicated daily with her mother and sisters via group chat, and she always wished her mother “good night” at the end of every day. Deana is now enjoying a pain-free existence in heaven along with her beloved father (known to the kids as “Granddad”) and her beloved Grandmother.

Deana adored animals and was a “pet mommy” to eight cats and three dogs over the years. Deana was a monthly supporter of Little Victories Animal Rescue (Barboursville WV) and Ashland Animal Rescue Fund (Ashland KY), and she frequented her local shelter in Charleston to find more animals to adopt.

In lieu of flowers, the family knows that Deana would unquestionably ask that donations be made to our local animal shelter, Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association (https://adoptcharleston.com) or the other animal charities in Barboursville or Ashland.

Online condolences may be sent to haferfuneralhome.net

Arrangements are in the care of Hafer Funeral Home, 50 North Pinch Road, Elkview, WV 25071.
