Gavin Robert Young, age 24, of Cross Lanes, WV passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, surrounded by his family & friends.

After a lifetime of a courageous & hard-fought battle with multiple cancers throughout his life, Gavin is now at peace. Gavin never had an unkind thing to say about anyone. He was a boy of few words, but you never had to hear many words from him to know exactly the kind of person he was. Gavin fought through every obstacle without ever complaining.

Gavin was born on April 9, 2002, in Charleston, WV. Gavin was born 2 months prematurely and spent 5 weeks in the NICU. Gavin was a graduate of Nitro High School in 2022. Gavin had a huge passion for NASCAR racing, Alan Jackson songs, Traxxas remote control trucks, and his faithful companion, Hailie, his German Shepard. You could find Gavin playing on his Xbox, watching a NASCAR race, or having a bonfire with his family & friends.

Gavin is survived by his loving mother, Kimberly Kitchen Young, his brothers and best friends, Mason (Serenity Hamrick), and Callen Young. His grandfather, Carl Mike Kitchen, and his best friend since birth, Eric Harper. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many lifelong friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his father Timothy Young, his paternal grandparents, Charles & Delores Young, and his maternal grandmother Barbara Kitchen. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and medical staff for their compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided during Gavin’s life.

Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor a young man who left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Living Hope Church (formerly Perrow Presbyterian Church) in Cross Lanes. Visitation will be from 1pm-2pm with service immediately following.

Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, WV is serving the Young family.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
