Sherry Lipford, 64, of Cross Lanes died on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with lung cancer.
So much more than a cancer victim, Sherry was a devoted wife, daughter, mom, and granna, as well as sister, aunt, niece, and friend. Sherry loved with her whole heart, unconditionally, and was deeply loved in return.
The youngest of three children born in Charleston, WV, to Paul L. and Janice Randolph Shaffer on November 3, 1961, Sherry’s childhood was one brimming with fun family activities such as attending Nitro midget league football games with her sister as tiny majorettes, riding their ponies, camping and waterskiing from an island in Marmet and at Sutton Lake, picnicking, swimming, and spending time with her grandparents. She is a 1980 graduate of Nitro High School, and later worked for many years at the Rite Aid warehouse.
She delighted in football, especially her Pittsburgh Steelers and WVU Mountaineers, and NASCAR. She loved hosting gatherings of family and friends with her husband at home on their patio and pool deck, going to NASCAR events and football games, and otherwise living a full and vibrant life.
Sherry was preceded in death by her infant son, Todd Cody Lipford, her parents, Paul and Jan Shaffer; maternal grandparents Hazel and Cody Randolph, and paternal grandparents Eva and Willard Shaffer.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Todd Lipford. She is also survived by daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Keenan Cummings and grandchildren Harper, Kase, and Isailea; brother Paul Shaffer (Teresa) and sister Julie Toler (Jim); plus adoring aunts, uncles, niece and nephews, and cousins, and her beloved dachshund Rosie.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
