Norman Lindell, born on September 10, 1952, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026. He lived a life defined by service, integrity, and a deep commitment to justice and equality.
Norman dedicated his professional life to advancing civil and human rights. He served as the Director of the West Virginia Human Rights Commission and later worked as a Human Rights Consultant for Steptoe & Johnson. In addition, he shared his knowledge and passion by teaching civil rights classes for the West Virginia State Police. His work had a lasting impact on countless individuals and institutions throughout the state. Norman also served on the Board of Directors for Goodwill, continuing his lifelong commitment to community service.
He was a devoted father and grandfather who found great joy in his family. Norman is survived by his children, Adam Lindell and his wife Amy, and Heather Thaxton and her husband Stevie. He was a proud grandfather to Aden Thaxton, Owen Thaxton, Katie Barker and Devon Lindell.
Norman was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debbie Lindell, whose memory he carried with him always.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 PM., Monday, February 9, 2026 at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston with Mike Burgess officiating. Norman will be laid to rest privately in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
Family and friends will gather for a time of visitation Monday from 5:00 PM until service time at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Norman’s memory to HospiceCare 1606 Kanawha Blvd, W., Charleston, WV 25387, honoring his lifelong dedication to protecting and uplifting others.
Norman Lindell will be remembered for his compassion, his unwavering sense of fairness, and the meaningful difference he made in the lives of so many.
