With great love and heavy hearts, our Family announces that our ‘Momma, and Grammy’ Marian Ann Smith, 89, of Marmet, West Virginia, formerly of Barney, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House surrounded by her family.
Scripture Psalms 23 brings comfort, whilst included within the Hymnal ‘Amazing Grace’ “… ’tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home”, resting in the arms of her Savior.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away”. (Revelations. 21:4)
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Rex Smith; her son, Dennis Smith; her parents, James and Myrtle Darley; her brother, Travis Darley. Her Sister In Law Nell Pollock .
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Robert) Sutton of Barton City, Michigan, and Deirdre (Jeff) Bradley of Marmet, West Virginia; her daughter-in-law, Laura Scozzafava- Smith of Tifton, Georgia; her sister, Ila (Sidney) Young of Farragut, Tennessee; her sister-in-law, Ann Darley of Del Rio, Texas, and Brother in Law Lamar Pollock of Valdosta, Georgia.
Grammys legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Elizabeth Sutton, Wesley (Amanda) Sutton, Jennifer (Chad) Huffman, Justin Bradley, David Morris, and Emily Morris. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Noah, Eli, Ian, Chloe, Hunter, and Jaxon.
A dedicated Army wife of over 22 years, Marian embraced the military lifestyle with a love for travel, culture, being full of wisdom, humor and warmth, she embraced meeting new people. Momma enjoyed scenic drives, storm chasing, rainbows, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and BINGO! Grammy especially loved completing the jigsaw puzzles with her grandson, Justin, and time spent with her favorite fur buddy, Marco.
Our family extends the sincerest gratitude to Andrew and the staff at Complete Care at Oakridge, along with Hubbard Hospice House for their care.
Marian will be memorialized and laid to rest alongside her husband at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar, West Virginia, tentatively in April.
