Gail Christine Carte (Thomas)

With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we remember Gail Christine Carte (Thomas), who passed away peacefully, surrounded by love ones. She was a devoted wife, nurturing mother, loyal sister, proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished friend to many.

A woman of deep faith, Gail trusted God through every season of her life. Her strength, grace, and solid belief carried her through challenges and triumphs alike including her multiple battles with cancer. Her faith was not only spoken—it was lived, reflected in her kindness, perseverance, and compassion.

Gail shared nearly 65 years of marriage with her cherished husband, David Carte, Jr.—a bond rooted in love, faith, and unwavering commitment.

A true free spirit, Gail found her greatest joy where the sun met the sea. The beach was her happy place, where she felt most alive, though she also cherished the simple pleasures of gardening and getting lost in a good book.

She also had a natural gift for caring for all creatures and fostered many a stray cats, one of whom, Mikey, became their sweetest companion and truest friend.

Gail’s life was marked by resilience and love in all its forms. She was lovingly raised by her adopted parents, Charles Arthur and Lovell Christine Thomas. Later in life, she was blessed to connect with her biological half-siblings, Steven and Daniel Cantley, Gerry Hawthorne, and was deeply grateful for the relationship they shared.

She will be remembered for her faithful heart, free spirit, generosity toward all living things, and the love she gave so abundantly. Though she is no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace—dancing in God’s eternal embrace, where she was lovingly welcomed at the pearly gates by her beloved grandson, Samuel Pierson, Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Arnold Carte Jr.; her children, Cindy Carte Simpson (David), David Arnold Carte III (Norita), and adopted daughter Dorothea Carte; her grandchildren, Christina Thompson (Del), Monica Simpson, and David Simpson (Rebecca); along with many great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held Hafer Funeral Home, 50 N Pinch Rd, Elkview, 25701. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 12:00pm-1:00pm with the service following at 1:00pm with Pastor Junior Holley officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park in Big Chimney.
