Billy Ray Anderson Sr., 78, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, at Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Charleston, West Virginia on March 17, 1949, Billy was the son of the late Elmer and Fannie Anderson. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the Vietnam War before returning home to build a long career, eventually retiring from West Virginia Steel.

Billy was a man of simple pleasures and immense talent. A true handyman at heart, he loved tinkering, and it was well known among those who knew him that there was absolutely nothing he couldn’t fix. When he wasn’t working with his hands, he could usually be found listening to his favorite bluegrass music. He will be deeply missed by his community of friends at Lee Terrace Apartments in Charleston, where he shared many good times.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his beloved son, David Anderson; and his siblings, Michael Anderson and Shirley Rucker and great granddaughter Amayiah Anderson.

His legacy lives on through his surviving family, including his sisters, Virginia Comer of Charleston, Eva Lee of Florida, his sons, Billy Anderson (Kelsey) and Jason Anderson (Nicki); his cherished grandchildren, Hali Brown, David Anderson, Brooke Anderson, Aidan Anderson, Bryson Anderson, and Silas Anderson; and his great-grandchildren, Drake Anderson and Theo Brown.

In accordance with Billy’s explicit wishes, there will be no public services held. For those who wish to honor his memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in his honor, celebrating his service and the country he loved.
