Ray Middleton, 85, of Big Chimney, West Virginia, fell asleep in death peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

Born on August 9, 1940, in Campbells Creek, West Virginia. Ray’s love of Appalachian bluegrass music, square dancing, and clogging was a passion for him. Ray also worked honorably for Dupont as a skilled Mill Wright for 35 years, bringing strength, reliability and quite pride to everything he did. Yet those who knew him best will tell you that his greatest work wasn’t measured in hours on the job, but in the countless moments he poured into the people he loved. Ray’s love for his family was immeasurable, deep, steady, and unconditional. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, William Middleton and Mildred Wilkinson Middleton, brother, Buddy Middleton and sister, Charlotte Middleton.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 31 years, Lynna Baker Middleton who stood faithfully by his side through every season of life; son Kevin Middleton and daughter, Cindy Middleton of whom he was immensely proud of. Cherished stepchildren, Matt Jones, Michael Jones, Tabitha Jones and Bridget Watts who all brought joy and light into his life. Sisters, Geraldine Pittman and Loise Asbury.  Ray is also missed by 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, of whom he cherished.

A Jehovah’s Witness, he found deep comfort and strength in his relationship with Jehovah God and the hope of the resurrection. His faith guided him gently through every chapter of life, shaping him into the loving, steadfast man so many will remember.

A graveside service will be 12:00pm Monday, July 13, 2026 at Elk Hills Memorial Mausoleum, Big Chimney, West Virginia with Elder Dean Hester officiating.
