Mr. Dana Carol Downey, 90, of Sissonville, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Dana was a graduate of South Charleston High School and retired from the Charleston Newspapers, where he dedicated many years of service. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. He was a devoted fan of the West Virginia University Mountaineers and the New York Yankees, faithfully following his favorite teams throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Blaine and Marvel Downey; his brother, Frank R. Downing; and his sister, Pauline Call.
Dana leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 62 years, Alma Downey; his son, David Downing; his daughter, Diana Downing; and his beloved granddaughter, Kayleigh Black.
Honoring Dana’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no services will be held.
His family will remember him for the love he shared, the quiet strength he displayed, and the many memories created with those who knew him best.
