Norma M. Chapman, 94, of Elkview, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. During her final years at Kanawha Place Assisted Living, she formed many cherished friendships and was known for the beautiful smile she always wore and for the light and love she shared so freely with everyone she met.
Born on May 30, 1932, in Clay, West Virginia, Norma was the daughter of the late Anis and Emma Crawford. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Porter Chapman; her parents; brothers Edward, Dennis, Dencil, and James Crawford; and her sister, Rita Bee.
Norma’s greatest joy was her family, and her Christian faith was the foundation of her life. She enjoyed caring for her home, tending her flower gardens, and spoiling her beloved Pomeranians, Mitzi and Pippi. A graduate of Clay County High School and Capital City Commercial College, she enjoyed a long career as a secretary and office manager, often saying she truly loved every job she held. Her greatest gift was making people feel welcome, loved, and valued, whether they were family, lifelong friends, or someone she had just met. Above all, she treasured every moment spent with her family and looked forward with joyful anticipation to the day she would be reunited in Heaven with Porter and those she loved.
She is survived by her daughters, Debby (Frank) Porta and Trilla (Tim) Daubenspeck; grandchildren Jaime (Steven) Johnson and their son, Ethan; Nicholas (Jessica) Porta and their sons, Austin and Cooper; Christopher (Sharity) Porta and their daughters, Peyton and Eva; and Wesley (Cara) Daubenspeck and their daughters, Nora Kate, Claire, and Violet.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. William Harris and his compassionate staff, as well as the caregivers at Kanawha Place Assisted Living, for the exceptional care and kindness they provided over the years.
Norma will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful friend whose kindness, unwavering faith, and unconditional love enriched the lives of all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace with her Lord and joyfully reunited with Porter.
Service will be 10:00am Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor George Webb officiating. Entombment will be at Elk Hills Memorial Mausoleum, Big Chimney.
Visitation will be 6:00pm – 8:00 pm Friday, July 31, 2026 at the funeral home.
