Deborah Kay Phillips Rutherford, 72, of Charleston, passed away July 15, 2026 after a long illness.
She is the daughter of the late Dessie and Ernest Phillips of Belington, WV.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dee and Frank Webb of Elkview, WV and son, Elijah Dolin of Julian, WV. She is also survived by her four nieces; Debbie Ann Butner of Salisbury, NC; Shelley Summerlin and Melissa Phillips of Eminence, KY; and Chrissy Phillips of Friendly, WV. Also surviving are great nieces; Morgan Ingram of Salisbury, NC and Mandy Phillips in Arkansas and great nephew Austin Phillips of Montrose, Colorado, great niece, Raygan Hagler of Salisbury, NC and all her numerous friends, plus her cat Junior.
Debbie was well known in the Charleston community for her psychic abilities and readings of Tarot cards. She once owned a small business of performing costume-themed theatrical celebrations for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and more. She performed and trained belly dancing in the Charleston area. She also worked with the Charleston Light Opera Guild in creating costumes for productions. Many may remember her from her work at the former Book and The Pendulum bookstore in Kanawha City.
