PHYLLIS ANN DOMOKOS CASSELL, 91, passed away August 2, 2026, after a short illness.
Born in Seth to Paul and Lorena Dunaway, Ann was salutatorian of Sherman High School’s Class
of 52. She married Louis Domokos and had two daughters, Becky Domokos-Bays and Lynda
Grass. While her secretarial career covered various employers, her 30+ years at the Jackson Kelly
law firm were her most treasured.
Predeceasing her were her half-brother Billie Martin, sister Shirley Bonz, and her second
husband, Boyd Cassell. In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her son-in-law Steven
Grass; grandson Jason Bays, his wife Renae, great-grandchildren Jackson and Ryann; and her
granddaughter Laura Shelters, her husband Heath, and great-grandson Kenneth.
Her love for the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys was only surpassed by her love for the
many feline companions that she cared for throughout her life, 5 of which survive her. She was
a strong supporter of sports activities at Stonewall Jackson and Capital high schools, and an
excellent league bowler, rose grower, and flower gardener.
Ann enjoyed travel, loved parades, and rollercoasters. Her Christmas celebrations provided
memories that will last a lifetime for her children and grandchildren. Her motto, one that was
instilled in her children, was “can’t never did do anything”. She lived her life treasuring new
experiences.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Meadow Brook Assistance with
Living in Julian and HospiceCare for the care and attention provided to their mother, and Debbie
Martin for the love and kindness she gave our mom during this final phase of life.
There will be no service and her ashes will be interred at Heaven’s Gateway Memorial Gardens
in Winfield. Please make donations in her name for cemetery maintenance to Heaven’s Gateway,
2820 State Route 34, Winfield, WV 25213.
