Shirley “Jean” Chambers Campbell, 91, of St. Johns, FL, formerly of Elkview, WV, passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a woman of deep faith, boundless love and quiet strength. Jean touched the lives of all who knew her with her caring and generous spirit.
Jean was born on April 17, 1935, the daughter of the late Sherman P. Chambers and Nona M. Holbert Chambers. She grew up in Miami, FL, where she graduated from Miami Edison High School. It was there she began to build the foundation of a life defined by dedication, hard work and devotion to God.
Jean went on to build a remarkable career with Holiday Inn, where she served faithfully for more than forty-five years. Her extraordinary tenure was a testament to her strong work ethic, reliability and the genuine warmth she brought to every role she had. Colleagues and guests alike were drawn to her caring nature.
Beyond her professional life, Jean was deeply invested in her community. She was a proud and active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. Through these organizations, she found fellowship, purpose and countless opportunities to serve others. Her involvement reflected a woman who believed in giving back and standing alongside those in need.
Above all else, Jean cherished her family, her friends and her church. She was a devoted member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where her faith served as the cornerstone of her life. Her relationship with the Lord was deeply personal and unwavering and sustained her throughout her life. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she now rests in the arms of her Savior, reunited with those who went before her.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles N. Campbell and son Charles N. Campbell, Jr.
She is survived by her two loving daughters Debby Campbell (John McComas) and Pam Carte; as well as her grandchildren: Stephen Campbell, Nicole Gross, Joshua Gross and Chase Campbell; and great-grandchildren Kieran Campbell and Bella Campbell, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that those who wish to honor Jean’s memory consider acts of kindness in their own communities, carrying forward the spirit of service and compassion that defined her remarkable life.
Funeral services will be held at Hafer’s Funeral Home in Elkview, WV, at 1:00 on August 15th, 2026, with Pastor Lee Swor, officiating.
Visitation will be 12:00pm to 1:00pm on August 15, 2026.
Burial will immediately follow service at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, WV.
