Joseph Franklin ‘Frank’ Carney, 90, of Winifrede passed away August 10, 2026 at home.
He was a retired coal miner, mine inspector for the State of West Virginia and a retired United States Marine Corps. veteran. Frank was a Christian who loved the Lord with all of his heart and enjoyed going fishing and hunting. He was a 50-year member and past Master Mason of Chelyan Masonic Lodge #158 AF&AM and member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonary.
Preceding him in death were his daughter, Karen Sue; parents, Earl ‘Jock’ and Katherine Carney and brothers, John Marion Carney, Gary Reginal Carney and Teddy Wayne Carney.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Betty Lou Carney; sons, Joseph Neal Carney (Sherry), Jeffrey Allen Carney (Leslie Kinder), Brian Keith Carney (Sherry Barker), Patrick Owen Carney all of Winifrede; daughter, Diana Lynn Laake (Randy) of Seth; brother, Timothy Long Carney of Comfort; sisters, Wilma Ireta Farnsworth of Elyria, Ohio, Iwilda Ann Laws of Winifrede; seven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Graveside services with military and masonic rites will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2026 in Green Cemetery, Winifrede with Pastor Danny Damron officiating.
In keeping with Frank’s requests, his cremation wishes will be honored prior to the services.
