Mellissa May Jeffers, age 58, of Sissonville, West Virginia, passed away on March 3, 2026, at her home.

She was born April 27, 1967, in Charleston, West Virginia, to Stella M. Summers and Eugene Summers, who lovingly raised her as his own and whom she proudly called her daddy.

Mellissa graduated from Sissonville High School, Class of 1985. On June 16, 1984, she married the love of her life, David Ray Jeffers. Together, they shared 42 years of marriage built on love, friendship, and devotion to family.

She proudly served the community through her career with the United States Postal Service in Charleston, where she worked for more than 25 years. During her time with USPS, Mellissa received numerous accolades and awards recognizing her dedication, reliability, and commitment to service.

Mellissa’s bubbly personality was evident in the many nicknames she was known by—MJ, Sunshine, and Sparkles. She had a way of bringing joy wherever she went, often described as spreading fairy dust and glitter figuratively along her path. She had a caring heart, loved animals, and was always willing to listen. Many people found comfort in talking with her; she was a natural counselor, even if she never realized just how much she helped others.

She enjoyed tending to her flower, sitting in her own little oasis on the front porch, and listening to the gentle music of her many wind chimes.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Stella M. Summers.

She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, David Ray Jeffers; her daughter, Ashley; and two cherished grandchildren, Rosiland and Alaric, and her daddy Eugene Summers all of Sissonville, She is also survived by her sister, Jeannie (Chris) of Missouri; her nephew, Bernie Joerger; her great-niece, Jordin; her great-nephew; and many dear friends and wonderful neighbors who meant the world to her, including Tina and Steve, Art and Jackie, and Nisa

.

A celebration of Mellissa’s life will be held at a later date. The family will announce details when the service is scheduled.  In place of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite animal shelter.

Though her time here ended too soon, Mellissa’s light, laughter, and loving spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her—like the gentle music of wind chimes and the sparkle of sunshine she shared so freely with the world.
