Joyce Faye Kilburn, 67, life-long resident of Campbell’s Creek went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 22 after an extended illness.
She was born in Charleston, to the late Pastor David M. Kilburn and Erma Gene (Lancaster) Kilburn. Joyce graduated from Elk Valley Christian School, Elkview. For most of her life, she worked for the State of West Virginia and served her community and her Lord.
She was a member of Fairhaven Baptist Church, which her parents helped to charter and found. She later became a member of Big Bottom Missionary Baptist Church. She loved attending church, spending time with her family, crafting, watching her Charleston Dirty Birds and Kansas City Chiefs and her beloved dog, Pepper. Joyce will be remembered for her open and welcoming heart, serving her community and loving her thousands of friends and family.
Surviving are her son, Kenneth (Mercedes) Jones; step-children, Jarod Jones, Samantha (Phil) Hall; brother, Charles (Janie) Kilburn; sister, Nancy Nelson and nieces and nephews, Dave (Shawna) Nelson, Michelle (Eric) Hackney, Amy (Mark) Stephens, Wendy (Justin) Beasley; great nieces and nephews: Erica Hackney, Hunter Woods, Bailey (Cory) Stainbrook, Lindsey (Caleb) Wilkinson, Abby Nelson, Will Hackney, and Walker Woods and many other nieces and nephews, godchildren, and friends whom she deeply loved, especially friends of her son who knew her as and called her “Mom.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pastor David M. Kilburn and Erma Gene (Lancaster) Kilburn; niece, Tina Kilburn and brother-in-law, Virgil Nelson.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Big Bottom Missionary Baptist Church, Campbell’s Creek Drive, with Rev. Bill Hairston officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Thursday.
Special recognition and thanks to the staff at WVU Thomas Memorial Hospital for the care they provided her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Living Bread Outreach Food Pantry of Campbell’s Creek.
