Mr. Thomas Michael “Tom” Strain, 76, of Nitro, formerly of South Charleston, passed away on April 26, 2026.
A 1968 graduate of South Charleston High School, Tom dedicated many years of service to Central United Methodist Church before his retirement. He was also a former employee of Kanawha Vault. Tom will be remembered for his deep love of family and his many passions, including cheering on the WVU Mountaineers, gardening, golfing, traveling to Myrtle Beach, drag racing, and attending car shows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Frances Strain.
Tom leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Carol Strain; his children, Kim (Carol) Proffitt, Kelli (Jason) Cleek, Tommy (Whitney) Strain, and Tim (Sarah) Strain; his stepchildren, Jason (Angel) Gladfelter, Holly (Kenn) Fowler, and Matthew (Sarah) Gladfelter; his sister, Nancy Phillips; his niece, Sharon (Steve) Donahue; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Cinnamon.
A tribute to Tom’s life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, at The Bridge in Poca, with Pastors George Webb and Mike Ramsey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
