Phyllis Clara (Johnson) Sowards, 93, of St. Albans departed this life Sunday, May 10, 2026 at CAMC Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 17, 1932 in Spring Hill, WV. A daughter of the late, William H. and Lena Edna (Johnson) Johnson. Also preceding her in death are her beloved husband, Lloyd Thomas; siblings, Clifford Johnson, Pauline Garton, Holbert Johnson, Judy Sowards and Donnie Johnson.
Phyllis was a homemaker.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving children, Anita Smith (Robert) of Charlotte, NC., Roy Thomas, Melvin Thomas (Angela Thacker), Regina Thomas and Samuel Thomas (Kimberly Thomas) all of St. Albans, WV; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as a host of other family and friends.
A funeral to celebrate the life of Phyllis will be held at 2:00 PM., Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston with Pastor Jesse Waggoner officiating. Phyllis will be laid to rest in Fox Hill Cemetery, South Charleston privately.
Family and friends will gather for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.
