Mrs. Dorothy Jean “Jeannie” Starr of Huntington went home to be with the Lord on her 83rd birthday, Monday, May 25, 2026.
Born with a gentle spirit and a servant’s heart, Jeannie was a graduate of Rivesville High School and retired after more than 20 years of dedicated service with West Virginia State College. A faithful member of Apostolic Life Cathedral, her greatest joy was worshipping with her church family. She loved to bake and cook, to crochet and sew gifts stitched with care, and to sit at the piano. Above all, she loved to be in the house of the Lord.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her husbands, James L. Clayton and Rev. Rush Starr; her parents, Majorie and David Price; her grandmother, Dorothy Panrell; and three sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tom Starr; James (Melissa) Clayton; Dianna (Robert) Gordon; Melissa (Drew) Ramsey; and Brandon (Carlie) Clayton; eight grandchildren, Nicholas and Breanna Henson, Lauren and Eli Clayton, Brett and Brittany Gordon, and Clayton and McKenna Ramsey; along with a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
A tribute to the life of Mrs. Dorothy “Jeannie” Starr will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Apostolic Life Cathedral, with Pastor Edwin Harper officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday evening. Entombment will follow on Friday at Haven of Rest Memory Gardens in Red House, WV.
