Tammy Huffman, 66, of Spencer, WV, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on June 18, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a long illness.
Born on March 19, 1960, to Wilma (Payne) Fields, Tammy was a 1978 graduate of Herbert Hoover High School in Clendenin, having also attended Walton High School.
Most of Tammy’s adult life was spent as an employee of Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) and its subdivisions. Tammy’s most professionally rewarding stint was her decade at the CAMC Family Resource Center. She made lifelong, loving friendships with her colleagues and her patients during her time at the FRC. Affectionately called the “Queen” at the office, she greeted each patient with the same smile and positive outlook that she used to approach her daily life. Tammy also worked at Roane General Hospital and spent a brief time with the State of West Virginia.
In her retirement, Tammy found great joy as the foster grandmother in Mrs. Suzanne Rector’s 2nd grade classroom at Walton Elementary/Middle School. She dearly loved all of her students and made many more special friends and memories at WEMS. After falling ill, she made it her goal to be well enough to return to school. She reached that goal and started the 2025-26 school year with Ms. Robin Jarvis in 2nd grade at WEMS.
Tammy’s hobbies and joys in life were countless. She found the joy in every day and lived to the fullest. She radiated positivity, happiness, and was full of life. You could find her listening to her favorite music from the 1970s, visiting thrift stores, watching murder mystery shows on tv, completing word-search puzzles, traveling, and spending time with those she loved dearly.
Tammy was preceded in death by the man she called dad, Bill Fields; her husband of nearly 13 years, Jeff Hayes; and brothers-in-law Steve Arthur and CP Young.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Ed Huffman; her son, and the pride and joy of her life, Matthew Hayes of Spencer; her beloved stepdaughter, Becky Adkins of Clay; sisters, Kim Darby of Charleston, Amy Arthur of Elkview, and Jennifer (Chuck) Dills of Walton; brothers Wayne Adkins of Zephyrhills, FL, and Adam (Jennifer) Adkins of Tampa, FL; stepmother Annette (Jim) Wadsworth of Zephyrhills, FL; stepbrother Jimmy Wadsworth of Tampa, FL; mother-in-law Nina (Ray) Haas of Walton; countless brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren, including Courtney Sattler of Clay and her children, Skyler, Jameson, and Zeke who affectionately called her their “Gigi;” her special sisters Kim Staats of Ripley; Susie Reed of Nashville, TN; Eva Reynolds Hardman of Chelyan; Valerie Reynolds Akers of Charleston; Linda Reynolds Leary of Granite Falls, NC; Suzanne Rector of Walton; and all the ladies at the FRC during her tenure.
Tammy wished to extend the following special thanks: to Dr. Chris Lambert, ER Physician at Roane General Hospital. From the start of Tammy’s cancer battle, Dr. Lambert was very helpful during her ER visits at the worst of times. He went above and beyond to ensure her comfort and to keep her family informed. Special thanks also extend to the Oncology unit at Roane General Hospital. Once Tammy transferred her care to Roane General, she was treated exceptionally well and she adored the staff. Gratitude to Dr. Rohit Patel of Evolution Primary Care in Riverview, FL, who had served as Tammy’s primary care physician for over a decade. She considered him family.
The family additionally extends special thanks to the staff at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston for their care and compassion.
